I know this is gonna come off as cheesy, but I just wanna let you guys know just how important #AOTWatchAlong is to me, as well as the live action Attack on Titan films are in general. As a fan of tokusatsu, as someone who grew up watching Godzilla, with some Gamera and...
Ultraman on the side, seeing these movies in theaters was a dream come true. And what makes it more impactful is that you just never see movies like them anymore, and I doubt we'll ever get anymore like them, aside from your usual Ultra/Kamen/Sentai event films. These were...
movies made from the ground up, based on a popular manga, and driven by the heart and passion of a man who once started with nothing, and decades later, takes on the opportunity to create perhaps his greatest features yet. As someone who wants to become a filmmaker, that...
really speaks to me. Shinji Higuchi is very much like Sam Raimi (another filmmaker I look up to) in that aspect-- people who started off making low-budget independent productions with their friends, and eventually made it big in the industry. Truly inspiring...
For the past 5 years, people have tried to ridicule, insult, embarrass, and humiliate me, just because I share a deep, personal love with these films. But the thing is, we've all got movies, shows, and games like that, where they may be flawed, but we cannot help but love them...
no matter what, because of what they mean to us. Are the Attack on Titan movies failures? Absolutely. They underperformed, and received mixed reviews. Will I deny the fact that the filmmakers put every amount of their being into creating what I believe is an outstanding...
tokusatsu epic that people just did not understand? Never.

There's also been this whole "tokusatsu vs. anime" thing that some of you may not have been aware of until SSSS.GRIDMAN, but the truth is, there are anime fans who just don't care about tokusatsu, nor do they even...
bother to try and understand it. And it kinda hits personally, because you have anime like Sailor Moon, Attack on Titan, and so on that are nothing without tokusatsu, as they heavily borrow from that medium. The fact that Attack on Titan would pay respects to the genre that...
inspired it by becoming part of that was very appropriate and poetic, yet anime fans did not see that, nor did they care to.
I truly believe that the live action Attack on Titan films are truly special, as they may be the last traditional tokusatsu films that aren't a spin-off of a pre-existing tokusatsu franchise that we may ever see. I greatly appreciate all the work the filmmakers put into them...
And I will forever stand up for them until the end of time, because they're just that special to me.
And for the love of God, can we stop criticizing the films because Levi isn't in them, and actually come up with legit criticism, such as how the character development leaves more to be desired, and how some of the very few CGI shots look not too great?
End of thread. Just felt like I needed to get that out.
