in case you’re one of the delusional few who don’t believe racism/classism is prevalent in egypt, here’s a little story. my family has a membership in one of the most “prestigious” sporting clubs in egypt. according to the rules, nannies aren’t allowed to be outside of the
kids area. one time, my younger sister had swimming training and all of us were too busy to take her, so i dropper her off with her nanny at the gate and because i was aware of this bullshit rule, i told the security guard at the front gate that i wanted to pay for a ticket
for our nanny, so that she could enter the club as my guest, and could then take my sister to her swimming lesson. as a member of the club, i should have been allowed to have guests as long as the entrance ticket is paid. but because our nanny is ethiopian and
dark-skinned, the security guard insisted that this was against the rules and that she wasnt eligible (“matesla7sh”) for a visitor’s ticket. and when i argued with him and said that i should be allowed to invite in any person i wanted, in his rage he said
“dol aslan mesh bane2admeen, di shaghala” right to my nanny’s face. there’s so many things that are wrong with this situation i can’t even begin to describe how shocked and angry i was that day. so yes, this is why we need racial awareness in Egypt, maheyash “moshkelet amreeka”
