indonesia & racism in papua: a thread.
im doing this thread in english to reach global attention because most indonesians just dont fucking bother to care abt papua. so please spread the words. retweet. engage with this thread.
indonesia has a long history of letting racist mentality build up in society to the point where people start calling papuanese, “monyet” in english its monkey.
this happened exactly a year ago and believe me, NOBODY FUCKING CARES. everyone gets silent when the word papua is brought up. here’s a video of indonesian’s police/government calling papuanese “monkeys”. https://twitter.com/veronicakoman/status/1163444548820856834?s=21 https://twitter.com/veronicakoman/status/1163444548820856834
on 2016, OBBY KOYOGA was beaten and discriminated by the police. he was stepped on like an animal similar to how george floyd was being handled. obby lived but he had to serve 4 months in prison with 1 year detention. what for? nobody knows they just want him locked up.
papua is the largest & easternmost province of indonesia. papua also has the largest gold mine thats why its being exploited by people in power. yall know how white people loves to LOOT right?
not gonna talk abt the unfair natural resources in papua being exploited but i recommend all of u to read on it. just search the grasberg mine, it should give u enough understanding.
police brutality fueled by racism isn’t only happening in america. its everywhere and too many lives were lost because people with privilege are too dense to FIGHT alongside us, people of color.
a better thread explaining what happened with obby koyoga. its in bahasa indonesia but google translate is free. https://twitter.com/ricotude/status/1265999956801773568?s=21 https://twitter.com/ricotude/status/1265999956801773568
keep in mind that A LOT of indonesians say the N word as if they never labeled papuans disgusting shit like “monkey” or “smelly and ugly”. i just want them and everyone else to know that shit aint okay. unless you’re black u are not allowed to use the N word in anyfuckingway.
history plays a huge part in why racism is glorified. the cases i listed in the threads are just a FEW examples of how it is for papuans and that their suffering needs to be acknowledged in order to ignite a change.
ini thread buat orang indonesia supaya lebih ngerti ttg #BlackLivesMatters & #PapuanLivesMatter https://twitter.com/liebchenle/status/1266673122297561089?s=21 https://twitter.com/liebchenle/status/1266673122297561089
EDEN ARMANDO BEBARI was shot by a military force because HE WAS FISHING and had a fishing spear with him. wtf. #RIPEDENBEBARI #BLACKLIVESMATTERS
a better explanation of what happened to him by one of his childhood friends. he was also tortured before he was shot. police brutality is sadly alive and well in indonesia. some tweets are in bahasa indonesia but google translate is free. https://twitter.com/nanspotatoes/status/1250744611200327682?s=21 https://twitter.com/nanspotatoes/status/1250744611200327682
