Here's a thought from me, adjacent only to current events. I'm not comparing my personal experiences to things going on now IRL, but I think it speaks to some of the online stuff.
I started this stan account because my main, and a lot of the politics I do there was impacting on my mental health. The activities of stanning is escape and distraction for me and I think that stuff is v. important. It brings relief and comfort to people. HOWEVER...
...there is no reason not to be able to express both things in the same space. Using the power of fandom is important, because fandom is *real*. Explicitly refusing to do so, for no good reason, is complicity, pure and simple.
That said, we cannot judge people for being silent at face value. There are many valid reasons not to be online through all this or to only want the fluff - real life trauma, activity on other accounts, activity in real life...we don't always know.
In short don't be complicit and don't be a dickhead.
