Spring 2020 is not just the driest on record at Phoenix Park back to 1837, it smashes the records

And the spring totals are not the most remarkable! The precipitation totals for April and May 2020 are the driest two months ever recorded at Phoenix Park since 1837 – at any time of the year.

The current drought (and it is ongoing) has already put the drought of summer 2018 at Phoenix Park in the shade – and a month earlier. This is the SPI-3 series for all months since 1837. This will need careful monitoring and management.

The spring SPI-3 series shows again how exceptional current circumstances are – no previous drought at this time of year even comes close.
