The silence of economists at a time like this is deafening.

Some of you have really gone about your business like the world is not burning when your training and platform literally gives you an opportunity to directly affect change.

Unbelievable.
For those who don't know, economists are some of the most powerful people in the world. They sit in govt, industry, etc. Yet, right now, many have not said a single thing about what's happening.

Tweeting about papers won't stop the world from burning. Take a hint. Read the room.
For those asking: "WhAt cAn eCoNoMiStS Do?"

- Recognize that the world is burning, first of all.
- Then this: https://twitter.com/RangiAperahama/status/1266717006935363584?s=20
And maybe I'll get in trouble for this, but stop promoting your shit for just a day and acknowledge what is going on.

Shamelessly sharing your work when you haven't taken a moment to just address what's happening is WORST than tone deaf.
*WORSE lol I can't grammar smh
How many non-Black economists have reached out to support their Black colleagues? I'm going to say maybe a few. Maybe.

This also applies to research assistants who reflect the homogeneity of the economics profession.

Also, ignoring this thread is case in point.
We've now established that "I'm not sure what to say" is no longer an excuse. Do better. I am younger than you and I am demanding that you do better.

Easiest thing to do is to donate to @MNFreedomFund and check up/support Black colleagues.
Can you believe that economists are more outraged about the term of "human capital stock" than actual human lives?

Y'all are weird.
If you're about Black people, learn about the economic policy idea #BlackWomenBest coined by @janellecj.

I will be releasing another piece about it with @EconomicPolicy next week, but check this out thread int the meantime⬇️ https://twitter.com/itsafronomics/status/1266029092048187392?s=20
This is catching steam (as it should) so I humbly ask that everyone please follow @SadieCollective, which is the FIRST and ONLY organization that is addressing the underrepresentation of Black women in economics & related fields.
