You have to consider the class divide in Atlanta, not just race. That might help explain why some people don’t care that TI and Killer Mike own half the west side.
I had critiques of Maurice Hobson’s “The Black Mecca” that I still stand by but overall I recommend the book in understanding what some Black locals describe as “two Atlantas” and the argument that Black politicians have only looked out for white residents and black elites.
I’m more than happy to share other resources on this with anyone who is interested in reading them. I love my city with all my heart and because I love it I want to make sure we’re depicting it in a way that’s wholly accurate.
