/6 Posted this on Facebook, and wanted to share my thoughts on Twitter as well.
To my white friends/former students/followers...once you post about your love & deep sadness for what occurred to George Floyd, I want you to ask yourself what actions are you now going to take?
/6 What will that deep sadness push you to do today? Unfortunately, for a majority the answer is nothing. You posted, you showed your friend list/followers you cared, you got some hearts & maybe a retweet. But in 2 weeks, 2 months, will you still be posting, will you still care?
/6 What actions are you prepared to take? Will you go buy books about African American history so you can learn about the things you weren’t taught in school, will you study racism & our country’s history of it, will you try to learn about privileges you are afforded because...
/6 of your whiteness? Many of you would say “I’m not racist”, but the real question is...are you antiracist. Are you willing to stand up & vote for policy changes at the local, state, & national levels that would benefit the black community? Posting is nice, but ACTIONS matter.
/6 To my black friends/former students/followers...my heart goes out to you and your families. I’ll never understand the fear, the hurt, the anger you feel every day in this country.
/6 I promise you that I will continue to work as hard as I can to educate my students to not allow these tragic events to continue in the generations to come.
