Telling white people to 'wake up' and 'be vocal' - 'your silence is complicity' - ends up with too much self-flaggelation, and 'white people, we have work to do' memes on my TL. Yes, defo donate to Minnesota Fund, but also :
- Don't call the police on anyone, unless you really have to.
- Don't call your racist uncle to talk about Brexit, talk to liberals/friends about never calling the police
- Support, fund and join prison abolition groups, in the UK and elsewhere (see e.g. CAPE)
- Join protests/campaigns against immigration detention and deportation
- Go to protests: for example, United Friends and Families Campaign should have the city on lockdown every year..it doesn't. Grenfell each month. Protest the arms fair.
- Campaign against school exclusions. Parents especially should be active in their schools, esp given how many black boys are expelled and propelled to prison via racist policing
- Obvs mutual aid groups, unions, decriminalisation of drugs all have a role to play too
Also buy read and share this book, esp with young ppl trying to find a way into activism. It offers some tips on the many things you/we can do together, beyond posting on the TL https://mobile.twitter.com/JoshuaVirasami/status/1263755907315519494
