Let's not forgot the atrocities committed by the East India Company for the British Empire and many other atrocities. Just a couple of noticeable ones you probably didn't know.
(A Thread) https://twitter.com/ryasmxn/status/1266450831982899202
1. During the Second Boer War (1899-1902), the British rounded up around a sixth of the Boer population - mainly women and children - and detained them in Concentration Camps. 27,927 Boers died, along with an unknown number of black Africans.2
2. In April 1919 in Amritsar, India, peaceful protestors defied a government order and protested against British Colonialism. British soldiers under the command of Dyer were ordered to fire until they ran out of ammunition. Around 1000 protestors were murdered within 10 minutes 3
3. Cyril Radcliffe drew the lines between Pakistan and India and he had never even been to India. This was done to strategically favour India and to spawn chaos. At the time of partition, neither side knew where the border was. Tensions were high and religious violence rampant .
Horrible religious atrocities took place. Sikhs and Hindus murdered Muslims and vice versa. "Pregnant women had their breasts cut off and babies hacked out of their bellies, infants were found literally roasted on spits.”
The incompetence of the British Empire led to the largest mass human migration event in history. 2 million people were said to have died whilst more than 100000 women raped. To this day, the blood caused by the unfinished resolution of Kashmir lies on British Hands
4. In 1943, around 4 million Bengalis starved to death when Winston Churchill diverted food to British Soldiers whilst a deadly famine swept through Bengal.
Churchill said " I hate Indians they are a beastly people with a beastly religion. The famine was their own fault for breeding like rabbits"
5. During the Mau Mau uprising in 1961, members of the Kikuyu tribe were detained in British Concentration Camps by British colonial forces. There, they were systematically tortured and raped . Upto 100000 died
The sister in the original thread explains pretty well how complicit the British Empire was in the slave trade. They were at one point the largest Slave exporter in Europe.
There were many more such examples such as the Opium Wars with China. However the point of this is just to highlight the atrocities committed by British that many of us are blissfully unaware about. Look at our own country before condemning other countries histories.
