Source at Stormont has advised me @duponline and @sinnfeinireland have done a deal over abortion regs to shut down access on grounds of disability expect in fatal circumstances. They plan to propose this on Tuesday. This clearly contravenes the regulations, CEDAW recommendations
The proposals would bring NI in line with the Republic of Ireland - is that a good thing? NO. We have countless cases of this limitation adding additional stress and barriers to those families who chose to have an abortion, who then have to travel to England.
The hypocrisy in this situation is shocking - where is the funding for support services for disabled people, for support for disabled children, for day care centres? Where is the consideration about how disabled women might need an abortion in these circumstances?
