Here a some thoughts on practical things that can be done during times like this as Christians

1. Pray
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
Pray the Lord will heal their hearts and that God would comfort those that are in pain / suffered trauma or loss

Commune an fellowship with God . Seek His counsel , pray His will, purpose and agenda . Pray for others , pray for the nation . Ask for wisdom
Do all this in confidence knowing that praying according to His will will always result in a sure answer

2. Be kind
The bible definition of kindness in 1 Corinthians 13 is to be useful . In other word be sensitive to the needs of those around you .
Sometimes it’s only a listen ear that’s needed . Sometimes it’s your presence that’s needed

Let Holy Spirit lead you in discerning
This could mean going over to cook or clean , or support in daily routines, taking care of kids, planning or prepping (for funerals etc) , going out to shop, regular visits

3. Give

Don’t just talk. Give what you can

It can be monetary ,it can be clothes , food , material resources . Once again be sensitive to the need of the individual(s)

4. Empathise/ Sympathise/ Show compassion :
“Bear one another& #39;s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”

Help carry the weight of the pain be there for people .

Nobody is asking you to be a counsellor or expert psychiatrist . Be genuine , be understanding as best as you can. Carry Gods heart and mind towards them in those moments . Call them , text , WhatsApp, iMessage , visit (if legally possible during covid-19 lockdown)
5. Love :
“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35
Look to serve those going through a hard time . Ask Holy Spirit on way that you can serve those going through a tough time as well as those who might not be

What can you offer, time , a call , a service , a free subsidised course, training , food, a gift , a song , a video , a piece of art, an encouraging piece of content , a funny skit , a lovely message , an outfit you designed and made .. (there are SOO many things)
6. Doing good works :
“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow& #39;s cause.”

Let there be an outward demonstration of an inward working .

Preach , teach and live a life that demonstrates a robust gospel . A demonstrating the fathers heart toward humanity
Coming against injustice , feeding the poor, supporting the widows/widowers and orphans , the homeless: the jobless , the discrimated and oppressed

7. Be thankful :
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful."
