Tweeting “we need to talk about racism in Australia and police violence against Aboriginal people” if you’ve never actually said anything about racism in Australia or police violence against Aboriginal people before isn’t solidarity, it’s deflection.
If you only ever address systemic racism and institutional violence in Australia as a comeback to similar issues arising internationally but are in no other way committed to visibility or reform then I hate to break it to you but that’s not solidarity, that’s just tweeting stuff.
A lot of people are committed to addressing police brutality and institutional violence in this country every day and they have damn well earned a right to show solidarity with similarly vulnerable communities overseas without smarmy neolib performativity in their replies.
I mean it’s just so absurd to see middle class yt people in such a fuss trying to outwoke each other’s riot tweets
