As a white person-you should also be enraged by the murders of George Floyd and countless others. It should break your hesrt every single time a black person-one of your fellow Americans, another human being-is murdered in cold blood. It should break your heart that this happens
So often. It should break your heart that your black friends are scared to be pulled over or even go out jogging-the very same things we as white people take for granted every day. We probably will never feel or understand so many of the struggles black people and other minority
groups in America have to deal with so often that this is their normal. We don’t have to fear for our lives anytime we interact with a police officer. We don’t have to face unequal treatment as a normal part of our lives. As white people we have a responsibility to speak out
And to take action. In the voting booth, in the form of demonstrations-whatever the black community needs from us, it is our responsibility to help change this country. Use your privelige for something good. Black people have tried demonstrating peacefully-they arent listened to
They are ignored, they are made into villains- as white people, if we support them when they speak and demonstrate against these murders, when we stand with them, we give them more power. When we stand with them, its harder to ignore their voices. When we stand with them and
Acknowledge the racism that permeates our culture so deeply, the rest of the country can’t ignore them anymore. Black people just want to stop being murdered for being black. If you can’t stand with that, I don’t know how you can live with yourself. Speak up. Stand with your
fellow human beings. Riots are what happens when people go ignored and unheard for so long—reasonable people suddenly don’t become reasonable people anymore. Because reasonable would be treating all people equally, regardless of the shade of their skin. If you say you stand with
black people but you speak against the protests, you don’t really stand with them either. Black people need to take every avenue they can because theyve been ignored and pushed to the side for so long. So stand with them, do your part to make their voices heard. And maybe we can
Finally get somewhere. White people will never understand the struggle of being a minority in this country—but as a white person, you should be heartbroken and angry that they have to face that struggle at all.
