1/ While the views of @Neil_Wilby and @hanksoff03 regarding the Diane Garbutt murder are diametrically opposed I think there is common ground in the fact they both want justice to prevail. It is only their perception of the facts that separates them in this common objective.
2/ The former documents the evidence in a lucid and precise manner, while the latter vehemently defends her friend, an admirable quality under most circumstances.
I do not want to get in the middle of their debate but...
3/ ...when I learn that people involved are at "breaking point" I feel compelled to appeal to Robin Garbutt directly.
If you, Robin Garbutt, have irrefutable evidence that exculpates you produce it now.
4/ If not, stop hiding behind friends and family and emerge from your denial which is hurting those so close to you. The masquerade is over. Your mother will forgive you. I repeat, your mother will forgive you, and perhaps even your wife's family too after a little while.
5/And release your friends from the burden of doubt about you, despite their unwavering support there will always be that nagging doubt in the back of their minds no matter what happens, unless you take the first step towards rehabilitation.
6/ You have friends that know how that process works and they clearly love you so do it. There is no shame in seeking redemption, and it will show everyone that you have taken responsibility. Anything less than the truth, now, is not an option.
7/ Do it for yourself, your mother, your family and your friends. Stop putting them through this, stop hiding behind them, and stop hurting them.
