As somebody who has experienced bullying as an adult - I do not condone harassment or personal intimidation. However, sometimes it is the employer who ‘victimises’ the bully (Cummings) by placing them on a pedestal & not dealing with the situation as per their policies.

THREAD:
Firstly - is Cummings the bully or are we? I don’t like the camping outside of his home. But you can argue that this is a backlash to repeated bullying & belittlement at his hands. He blatantly uses his power to treat us differently than himself causing pain & risks to our health
If we were all in it together - he’d be undergoing the same hardships. Secondly - the ongoing public anger is not so much about the fact he did it in the first place. Others have broken the rules. It’s the fact he didn’t face the same consequences and, given his role, receive a
dismissal for gross misconduct. He’s not even had a warning. It’s been denied by his employer. As is the case with workplace bullying, the bully could be acknowledged, appropriate actions taken and at that point the process calms down. The tribunal need not take place. It is done
But the tribunals that do take place are not usually against the bully, but the employer. It goes to tribunal because the employer breached its own policies in not protecting its staff from harm. Yes - the original issue lies at the heart. But the point is more about the fact the
Employer failed to act accordingly. The person or bully at the heart of the case, therefore, is dragged through the courts because the employer didn’t protect them or the complainant appropriately in the first place. It might seem like a good thing to be let off the hook by your
Employer - but not when it’s blatantly and publicly wrong to do so. Hence, there becomes another seeming victim and emotions are high on both sides due to what the perpetrator is going through as a result of no initial action. These cases tend to happen when it is obvious the
Complainant has a case - but when it is against somebody in a senior position - integral to the company or who has the ear of the person at the top. If it was someone further down the chain, they’d no doubt just do the right thing because they wouldn’t value them as much. It’s
Blatant hypocrisy and corruption. And therefore I still believe that the only way bullying and discrimination can be stopped is through independent scrutiny and investigation. There’s always an agenda when it’s a senior figure investigated by their own boss. I’ve seen it myself
My view is that Boris Johnson is not in a position to investigate this case. It needs to be referred to an independent committee (indeed the police have already confirmed there was a breach and others have stepped down from their positions for the same or lesser breaches)
But the longer this rumbles on, the more one side gets angry and the other feels sympathy for Cummings. And maybe that’s exactly what BJ wants. To use pity to bring people back on side? And all those still angry and upset - well, we’re just all aggressive lefties aren’t we?
My view is that we stop campaigning against the individual, and start campaigning against his employers response to a blatant gross misconduct & the breach of their own policies. We need to hold government to account & stop standing outside Cummings house. He won’t sack himself.
Everyone’s emotions are being played. From those who lost loved ones, to those who feel upset at Cummings’ family being targeted. We’ve lost sight of the real issue. The real issue is a PM unfit to lead and a government that doesn’t care.

They ALL broke the rules in this case
