British Ambassador to Zambia tweeted one of my favorite Bemba sayings or words of wisdom.

I'm inspired to share 10 of my favorite sayings for those who appreciate African wisdom in words.

Sunga umukoshi, ubulungu tabwafya 1/10

Translation: Keep the neck, beads (jewelry) are not difficult

Interpretation: Do not lose your life seeking material things. Life is more important than them.
Musalu wali pe samba, ewisa pa mulu 2/10

Translation: the vegetables/plants that were at the bottom are the ones that come on top

Interpretation: Often those we despise tend to become the greatest. Or Do not despise anybody, they may become important
Icikupempula, ecikulya 3/10

Translation: that which visits you, eats you.

Interpretation: It is people closest to us who may the most dangerous
Ukuteka imbwa, mano 4/10

Translation: Raising a dog is wisdom

Interpretation: It takes a wise leader to rule people and keep them together in peace and harmony
Ululumbi lwa mulanda, kukakata 5/10

Translation: the fame of a poor person is in being ruthless

Interpretation: If you come from a poor background you should work harder than those from privileged backgrounds to be as successful
Uwaililwa onta ubuta bwakwe 6/10

Translation: A person who is caught up unaware by nightfall uses his/her weapon to make fire

Interpretation: Desperate times calls for desperate measures Or, lack of proper planning can cause one to make irrational decisions
Abenda, ebaleta amakasa ya nkalamo 7/10

Translation: Those who travel are the ones who bring the foot prints of lions.

Interpretation: It is the the Pakistani travelers who brought corona to Zambia 😂😂😂
Ukupoka icinsenda ku nkoko kunakilila 8/10

Translation: Getting a worm from a chicken is to be soft

Interpretation: You have to be polite in order for you to acquire important resources from those who have
Umucele ukufina, bomfwa kubausendele 9/10.

Translation: The heaviness of salt can only be felt by those carrying it.

Interpretation: Experience is the best teacher Or No one can tell your story better than yourself
Icikalika pa nsaka, musumba wa bwali 10/10

Translation: The thing that make people stay at a village gathering in nshima.

Interpretation: Some people are only hanging around you for the benefits they're getting from you. Lose those and they'll disappear
