The Brilliance of Persona 5 Royal's "bad" ending (thread) Idk, I feel like talking about it cus I find it really captivating and I'm just doing this for fun really.
The interesting part about this ending is the notion that it isn't even inherently bad at all, technically it's a "good" ending as everyone gets what they want and ends up arguably even happier than in the true ending, but it still feels so damn off and unsettling.
It was quite nice to see everyone living out their "ideal" lives in this ending, but it felt so unsatisfying to me, it feels almost fabricated (cus it is) as everything Joker did is basically null and void here, as he had no impact on their lives in this cognition, he didn't-
help them grow as people. Maruki essentially granted them everything they wanted, but through this denied the bonds that were established through their adversities within the story, making it feel cheap. Everything we'd done throughout the-
game with taking down Kamoshida, Madarame, etc feels worthless. After all, what is the point after this when it didn't even help them grow or move on, it gave them an easy way out making our actions in the game feel redundant.
This ending is making them live a beautiful lie. The disturbing part is how Joker seemingly is conscious of this, which we see in this scene. Imagine how isolating that would feel. Also would like to mention how Maruki walking off like that is so damn unsettling.
With Sumire, she is essentially mentally killed in this ending as she lives on as Kasumi, unable to move on from her sister's death. This ending sequence is also neat, and showcases everyone living their ideal lives, with the fitting song "Ideal and the Real" playing.
Gonna continue this thread later lol. I'm just doing this for fun xd
