THREAD: (1/12)
performative activism is when you ONLY display yourself as an activist (keyword: “only”). this means ONLY posting on social media, ONLY saying “Black Lives Matter,” ONLY wearing your “girl power” shirt, ONLY using your “activism” to make you look good.

it’s great that you take the time to spread awareness using your platform, but do you ALSO take the time to PROPERLY educate yourself & others on the issues you preach about? b4 u post about something, do you make sure you know everything about it & don’t cherry-pick info?
(3/13)
you can post some days, you can post everyday, but make sure what you post is accurate & ACTUALLY supports your side. quality over quantity.
(4/13)
do u call out ur friends, family, partners, or literally anyone u see contributing to the issue, whether it be blatant or subtle? do u listen when someone holds u accountable for ur mistakes? do u back up/support & not belittle other activists who use their voices?
(5/13)
if you’re able to, do you host/attend events, contact your lawmakers, sign petitions, donate & are a member/leader/founder of (an) organization(s) that contribute to the cause?
(6/13)
retweeting & reposting is the bare minimum. use the info you have to act. if you don’t actually take action, it’s not activism.
(7/13)
with this said, don’t invalidate online activists out there because they are just as helpful, ESPECIALLY during this pandemic that’s limiting physical interaction, not to mention, MANY of today’s biggest social movements were started online (i.g. blm)
