Tough watching the country tear itself apart. Tough to see anything changing anytime soon until we as a country address racial discrimination. Having lived in the Region my whole, I've witnessed racial inequality first hand. Impossible to ignore. You know it when you see it.

When I was young as we would drive from our house in wholesome Crown Point, Indiana through Gary and into Chicago. I always knew I had advantages that other kids/people couldn't have. I always thought how lucky I was to be born where I was and how that wasn't fair to them.

But why does it have to be that way? Why do the chips have to be stacked soo hard against one side? How does that change?
When they say "It takes a village" to raise a son. I epitomized that statement. I always joked had I been born anywhere else I'd be dead or in jail.

I can't tell you how much bullshit I got out of just for being from CP. Guaranteed had I been born on the other side of the tracks, my story would be much different.
That doesn't seem to change as we get older.

A few yrs ago I had a big miscommunication w/ an officer right outside of Wrigley Field immediately before Game 5 of the WS. (I was running through a sidewalk I wasn't allowed on.) The 1st cop ruffed me up pretty good. Had some bruising on my arms and legs from his "detaining"

Was very scary for me because he was way out of line and I was resisting initially because of it. (Human instinct kicked in) but even though he wanted take me in or scare me, calmer heads prevailed and his partner, who saw I had no ill intent, agreed to cut me loose.

I didn't get strangled to death. Even though I had initially resisted when he grabbed me. I could've went to jail on the biggest night of my life but I didn't! It was a miracle, I felt. But I also knew I got a little taste of what black people in America have to deal with.

I know that had I not been white that could've very easily went a different way. I couldn't imagine having to live with that kind of fear of that happening to you everyday. To be choked to death over something so trivial.

What happened to George Floyd is unacceptable. This isn't the first time it's happened and probably won't be the last. Again I ask...why?
How do we fix what seems unfixable. I think it starts by listening and trying to understand what its like to walk in someone else's shoes.

Some have more power for change than others. But we can all start a healthy discussion. That's where it starts. Who knows when it will end. But the change has to happen in this country.
