Today and always I stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ young people, teachers, parents, campaigners& people of faith. Conversion therapy destroys lives, it’s not a “both sides” debate. It’s being banned but not quickly enough. (I don’t want to debate your opinion) 1/5

When I first came out I was forced to have an exorcism & an HIV test by my Christian parents. They thought these were appropriate responses (they’ve shifted since then). Many conversion therapy centres use Spiritual and physical abuse to “fix” queer people. 2/5

There are supportive groups for people of faith, reach out to them. Be sure that they’re queer affirming rather than conversion therapy masquerading as a support group.

In my own faith journey I reached out to a Christian LGBT Support Group, was allocated a Christian Counsellor to help me reconcile my queerness and my faith. Their mission was to “help” me accept the orthodox biblical view of sex, gender and relationships. I survived it. 4/5

The amazing @ruth_hunt has curated The Book of Queer Prophets. It’s just been published. I’ve ordered a copy. It has writings from LGBTQ+ people of faith, questioning people and atheists. I’m looking forward to reading it. 5/5
