Here in France, people are barely aware of what happened. When I first learned about it, I was so upset that I cried in the middle of my living room and my children were there and asked what was happening. They are really young, 6 and 4 so I tried to explain them in easy words+
But unfortunately they are no magic words to just ease what happened and I think it we shouldn’t try and ease this pain. So I explained them and tried to educate them, told them that in the world, people who have are not white are considered differently because of their color+
That they are in danger because of their color, that they die because their skin isn’t like ours. We live in a sick cruel world, people are sick and cruel, and its sad to have to learn that to my daughters at this young age but I have to. And because they are children, they talk+
And here’s what happened next. My oldest daughter just explained all of her friends at school what I explained to her. And there’s this one kid, who is black in her class, that got scared and cried. So the teacher has to explain all of them. And the children got home later+
And asked to their parents, so they had to inform themselves and explain them and educate them. So basically, I spent the last 48 hours to try and educate my entire village because they weren’t even aware of what happen overseas because French media didn’t talked about it+
Because it’s the end of quarantine here and we’re overwhelmed by news about that instead of news about how a black men, how George Floyd, died because of his skin color. I told them about him, and about the riots, and about #BlackLivesMatters
We have a neighborhood group chat and a group chat per classes for our children that we have created during quarantine so I used that and tried to spread awareness and we talked about it and of the best way to educate our children together in this awful world. My point is, it’s+
Amazing to tweet and qrtweet and use your plateform to spread awareness but don’t forget that there is real life out there. You can talk to your family, to your friends, to your colleagues and classmates, to your children, husband, wife, partner, to everyone.
The worst part is, racism is everywhere and ignorance is everywhere. I spoke to people who are racists without even knowing it, tried to let them see how twisted and awful their vision is by talking about George Floyd and what happened to him.
So please, don’t forget to rise your eyes from your screens and ask to the person in front of you if they know about George Floyd, if they heard about #BlackLivesMatters and if they want to help and how they can help #RAISETHEDEGREE #JusticeForGeorge
