For the last year or so, an hour here and there, I've been building an idea I had a long time ago. I wasn't really ready to launch, but I feel it's really important right now. The site is https://hereandnow.news  and this is a thread about it. https://twitter.com/HereAndNow_App/status/1266607236643565568
Most of this thread is also captured at https://hereandnow.news/about , but I wanted to lay it out here as well.
Years ago, during the #Ferguson_Riot, I had a hard time keeping up with the twitter stream of news. I wasn't really familiar with the area and tracking what was happening where was nearly impossible.
Later, living in overseas, we had trouble getting up to date information about small, regional concerns from fellow ex-pats. The current social media isn't location focused; it's about who you are connected to as to whether you get the information.
Now, I'm frustrated that the news is mixed with the commentary. I enjoy the discussion, but I also want a place that doesn't encourage the drama and isn't about attention seeking.
So, here comes Here & Now. It's a far cry from my https://hereandnow.news/vision  but we have to start somewhere. Please do check it out, give me any feedback you might have, and pass it along if you think it might be worth it.
