A helpful reminder that the Venn diagram between those who look at what's happening in the US and say they would listen if people were protesting peacefully, and those who absolutely go off their nut whenever Aboriginal people protest peacefully in Australia, is a circle. https://twitter.com/realCarrickRyan/status/1266579530635816961
I also remember it wasn't the death of a 14-year-old boy, who was run down in broad daylight by a white man in a 4WD, that cause blanket media coverage and widespread concern.

It was the riot.
I still have the photo of the oil patch that marks the point where the 4WD that struck Elijah Doughty came to a stop.

And I'm always growing to remember the group of Elijah's friends, all Aboriginal kids, raising their hand when I asked if they'd ever been chased like that.
Don't say: these protests over the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, so many others should not be violent.

Instead ask yourself: why do we only listen once a window gets broken?
If the death of your kids was treated so lightly, tell me you wouldn't riot.
