I keep thinking of this piece Chris Graham wrote after Elijah Doughty was run down in Kalgoorlie in 2016.

I also remember it wasn't the death of a 14-year-old boy, who was run down in broad daylight by a white man in a 4WD, that cause blanket media coverage and widespread concern.

I still have the photo of the oil patch that marks the point where the 4WD that struck Elijah Doughty came to a stop.
And I'm always growing to remember the group of Elijah's friends, all Aboriginal kids, raising their hand when I asked if they'd ever been chased like that.

Don't say: these protests over the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, so many others should not be violent.

The man who drove the car that killed Elijah Doherty was acquitted of manslaughter and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death.
