In California, under the Emergency Zero Bail Schedule, most misdemeanors and low-level felonies should be "zero bail" and be an immediate release. Things to watch for then during protests: (1/5)
1) Upcharging - arresting agency will increase the charge in order to avoid the zero bail schedule (so they keep ppl in jail. Like a nonsense misdemeanor resisting arrest magically becomes a felony assault on a police officer). (2/5)
Because the average bail amount in CA is 50K, it prices out most community bail funds who, since they can& #39;t pay the full amount, don& #39;t (understandably) want to line the pockets of a bail bonds company and pay the 10% to a parasitic industry. (3/5)
2)Another reality is jails (if not watched) can try to avoid the automatic release mandate of zero bail - detaining ppl longer intentionally.

So -- press police chiefs about not arresting and not intentionally up-charging. And, press Sheriffs to honor the Zero Bail release mandates.
