I see a lot of people talking about the black community and the latinx community as if they were two distinct spheres. Don't forget that there are black latinx and that latinidad is not a race.
Most of the time we tend to reduce latinos to one race and minimize our struggles under one umbrella. When that isn't the case. Latinos can be black, white, indigenous, asian...
White-passing latinos and white latinos have, as a perk of their skin color, insurmountable privileges. Oppositely this has meant that black and indigenous latinx have been erased, sidelined and oppressed.
Yes, being latino puts you further down the 'hierarchical structure of society', but that, intersected with race has different effects on people.
On one hand, white latinx have contributed to police brutality (e.g. cop who shot Philando Castille was latino). On the other hand, black latinx have been victims of their brutality.
As a community, latinos are stupidly racist. Just listen to the bullshit people scream whilst watching football. They think they get a pass because of their ethnicity. But they don't. We are also part of the problem. We are a highly divided community with no accountability.
Speak up and protect black latinx. Fight as hard as your argue for your pass to say the n word.
And I don't say this to take away from the main issue which is the murder of George Floyd and the justice he deserves. I made this thread because #BlackLivesMatter regardless of ethnicity or nationality.
