Really digging the definitive edition a ton so far. Always was an excellent game, but better character models is a nice improvement. There’s a lot of detail in environments up close, but I feel the farther out something is it tends to get fuzzy which stands out more here.
I can’t tell if you if I like the new menus or not. They moved stuff around, but it’s been too long since I played the original. Vanity gear is nice, but you can’t disable the feature after using it once which is lame. I want to know how ugly my current outfit is without it lol.
I do think it’s funny muscle memory really kicked on locking onto and off of enemies. Biggest feeling of I’m home! lol.
One last thing for now, the new soundtrack sounded pretty good...until the new arranged version of You Will Know Our Names kicked in. Lacks all the punch and bombast of the original. I can not and will not play this game without that song being right.
Unexpected cool thing since I just went to address it. There are two separate toggles for arranged field music and arranged battle music. So you can have a proper You Will Know Our Names and still have some newish songs to listen to.
I just made it to the Gaur Plains my favorite map in Xenoblade that also has the best field music. Going to explore for a bit then start Future Connected.
Also it’s not obvious some menus have submenus with more options with the plus button. You can remove vanity gear like that.

Not sure exactly when I’ll be playing more, but I did start Future Connected tonight and played for about 55 minutes. So very cool to finally have more of the original Xenoblade. The two new Nopon companions might not suck either!?
I do have to say, I did lose a lot of respect for Shulk after he named his new clothes after walking fashion disaster Rex. (I assume the battle arena dlc in 2 was canon and took place before Future Connected.)
Going to continue with my thread from yesterday. I spent about five hours slowly mapping every inch of the Gaur Plains playing a little bit here and there today. Xenoblade is the Gaur Plains for me. Just wonderous to explore, get into trouble, and fight big monsters.
I don’t remember this in the Wii version, but if you zoom in the camera far enough you basically can have a first person view of the world which is pretty cool. Just pretend you are very short...
I switched to handheld mode in the Ether Mines and I’m pleasantly surprised how well it ran here. Definitely need to test it on a bigger outdoor map, but very happy so far. Stopping here for tonight, but wow I’ve just been blown away by how excellent this game still is.
Enjoyed playing Xenoblade off and on today and I may play more later tonight. I reached Satorl Marsh, but ran back to do some side quests to get some money. If I didn’t say it earlier, man I’ve been really impressed with the cutscenes. New graphics make them more impactful.
I’m beginning to suspect the amount of XP you get in DE might have been upped considerably. I don’t feel I’ve been fighting/exploring as thoroughly as I did on the Wii version, yet I’m constantly five levels above every area I’m in. Just enabled expert mode which should help.
I’m a little over 22 hours in and Riki just joined my party. Feels like I’m moving through this game at a great pace. I’m very glad I enabled Expert Mode. It has slowed down my leveling, but I’m building up tons of levels if I want them. Expert Mode should be in more RPGs.
The world of Xenoblade made a huge impression on me back on the Wii and in 2020 the areas you travel to are still super impressive and wondrous. I don’t think there is another developer who makes worlds that are begging to be explored quite like Monolith.
