It's worth remembering that, until the 1960s, almost all the race riots in American history consisted of mobs of white men going into black neighborhoods to burn property and kill people. Reading the reasons for these riots and how they unfolded is actually a good education in why black people might now feel justified in burning down a Target now and then.
If you start reading about the Reconstruction-era ones, you'll find links leading to more and more massacres, lynchings, and acts of terror; essentially a campaign by white militias that overturned elected governments and imposed apartheid rule in the South for generations.
The generational poverty that many black families experience now is the direct result of those violent acts of political terror. The disenfranchisement and dispossession of black people in America was achieved largely through *race riots*.
