George Floyd and his family deserve justice. The protests in Atlanta and around the country are the result of communities being denied their rights, their safety, and their freedom for too long. 1/6
When these communities are silenced and their very lives are placed at perpetual risk, protest gives voice to those who have been unseen and unheard. 2/6
From the earliest days of our nation, free speech, protests against unjust governance, and the right to petition our government for a redress of grievances have been a part of making America a fairer and stronger nation. 3/6
As Americans raise their voices to demand an end to racial inequity and injustice, we must ensure everyone can do so — whether in the streets or at the ballot box. 4/6
We must press for change — deep, systemic change — everywhere from our communities to our schools to our government agencies and elected officials, and we must hold accountable those who turn a blind eye to the injustices that haunt us. 5/6
I commit to being an agent of that change, and I pray for those who work and strive to make our nation a place of freedom and justice for all. 6/6
