A note about selling coffee at a discount : we don’t like doing it because many specialty coffees are underpriced to begin with and we work with incredible roasters who source incredible green coffee.
Since 2011 we have ordered freshly roasted coffee on a weekly basis to serve and to sell. As we manage our inventory levels and forecasting for the demand of coffee during the pandemic, we continue to strive to sell coffee as fresh as possible
to our customers without being out of stock (a tricky balance no doubt!). Although roasted coffee technically has no expiry date, it is almost always more delicious 1-5ish weeks off the roast.
As a cafe we always have had the benefit of brewing through any excess coffee very rapidly. However, without a functioning cafe we don’t have the benefit of absorbing any coffees on the retail shelf that are older than 10-14 days off the roast.
As such we have accumulated some coffees with a roast date as old as May 11 (the horror!). Because we like to maintain consistent ordering habits with our roasting partners we need to make sure we get our inventory levels in check.
We almost never put coffee on sale, but here we are! Enjoy!
