For years, sprawl was on the ropes. As @clmarohn & @JoeUrbanThree have shown for years, sprawl will in time break communities across America when the sprawl Ponzi scheme fails. But then COVID19 showed up. Now, sprawl is sensing its obscene & profane "second coming."
Sprawl acolytes like @joelkotkin say "sprawl will save you," and while that's insane, he's not entirely wrong. On the (sort of) other side @MarketUrbanism hopes for unfettered development, it seems. I think there's an actual middle ground that might work. And it's not this pic.
Transit has taken a severe COVID beating but there's a problem: If only a million people come into Manhattan at rush hour, you'd need something like 22,000 extra cars PER LANE into the city that hour if nobody rides transit. Only NASCAR speeds bumper-to-bumper could do that.
