I used to want Black celebs to use their platform more to speak out against police killing us. I was disappointed when they didn't. I thought they were more concerned about their image than our community. Then people like Shameik Moore and Lil Wayne happened. Thread.
I won't repeat some of the things they have said because I'm already upset. But if I was to make a "top 10" list of Black celebs who I legit want to send a care package of books to, they would be on the list. Instead, I will offer some suggestions inspired by @BritniDWrites
First, be informed about systemic racism, internalized racism, and the history of Black revolutions in this country. Baldwin, Morrison, Michelle Alexander are great places to start. But you should also watch 13th on Netflix. @ava did a brilliant job with that.
Plus, follow some reputable activists and Black journalists on social media. So many Black writers are doing the heavy lift to keep us informed and educated. Please just do a little homework and stay informed.
This thread could be so much longer, but I will end it by saying it's always helpful to follow the lead of Colin Kaepernick and bail out protestors and pay for their legal fees. I'd rather you do that than go full Shamiek Moore. Never go full Shamiek.
