I’m reading an anthology of monster stories that includes a story by C/assanda C/lare, and I’ve heard a ton of (largely controversial) stuff about her but have never really read any of her writing, and it turns out... it’s not very good.
The sentences are weird and clunky, the characters are one-note, and the attempts at building tension are corny and always fall flat. It honestly just feels a lot like a rushed first draft.
I’m just kind of surprised at how mediocre the writing is since she’s such a famous author, but I guess popularity is not indicative of quality.
