I am here in Downtown Portland, where activists have occupied the steps of the Justice Center in solidarity with protesters in Minneapolis and around the nation. We are about 30 minutes out from the official start of today's event.

I am told police are suiting up nearby.
Some sights from the occupation area. Riot cops are supposedly on their way.
This is the federal building, where riot cops are supposed to be lying in wait.
Protesters are at either intersection around the justice center. They are directing traffic to go around it, and basically blocking off the road directly in front of the justice center.

Most vehicles passing by so far are supportive. But one driver did threaten activists earlier
Here is the other intersection. I just talked to some folks who have been here a while. They say four drivers have tried to drive through, at least two actually making contact with people. One driver was arrested for this.
Busses are being allowed to pass through as normal, but drivers are being directed around the intersection, as you can see here.
Bikers are also being allowed through as normal. Seems like about 60% of drivers are either cool with it or actively supportive, 40% seem pissed. Not at at all a scientific study.
While I was at the other intersection a car drove through, clipping two people. One of those people jumped up on the hood to protect himself. I interview him here. His face is kept off camera on request.
Firefighters and ambulances are, of course, also being allowed through as normal.
Some protesters are now headed to a 6pm Vigil for George Floyd in North Portland. I am staying here for the time being.
Compared to how shit is popping off everywhere else, Portland is relatively quiet. This may have something to do with the fact that cops are staying the hell away from this demonstration.

Guess we will see how long that lasts.
Again, pretty clear that most traffic is generally supportive of what's going on here.
Here we have a supply drop. Things will hopefully stay calm here. I am en route to Peninsula Park.
Peninsula Park, North Portland. Thousands of people gathered in solidarity for a vigil for George Floyd. I don't know that I've ever seen this many people gathered in Portland for a protest.
A message from Portland.
Some art from Portland. Powerful enough that it hurts.
One last message from the streets of Portland. The crowd at Peninsula are marching together down to the Justice Center. There were thousands when I left.
I am back at the Justice Center, where the crowd occupying its steps and the road out front has only grown. The mood is high here tonight. Broadly peaceful to everyone but the Police, who I have seen very little evidence of.
I was handed dinner as soon as I arrived. Because Portland knows how to treat a journalist.
