A hostile foreign country perpetrated a massive criminal conspiracy to interfere in the US election to support Trump’s candidacy. While Republicans and Democrats called for more severe penalties, Flynn sought to secretly undermine the impact of retaliatory sanctions on Russia.

The Mueller Report demonstrates that the Trump campaign was generally aware of the Russian plot, sought to assist it and to benefit from it, and then when Trump was elected, his transition team got to work ensuring Russia wouldn’t be held accountable for what it did.

This was immoral and unpatriotic. It was also highly suspicious. That's why Michael Flynn and Donald Trump lied about what they did and what they were doing over and over again. And it is why Flynn committed the crime of lying to the FBI about it. The crime he later confessed.
