/8 I believe it is important to admit when you haven& #39;t done enough to speak out and support people of colour during moments like this. I should have done more this week to speak out about the injustice against black people and all PoCs that has been highlighted in North America.
/8 I& #39;ve been stuck in my UBC bubble over the past couple of days but I recognize is only because of my privilege and race. Friends and community members have been suffering from the violent and racist acts they& #39;ve had to witness. I apologize for my silence and lack of support.
/8 As a student advocate, it is necessary that I use any platform I have to speak out more against white supremacy, anti-black racism, and violence in any form. What is happening in the United States (in Canada too) to Black People is violent, malicious, and unacceptable.
/8 One of the most important actions we can all do is donate if possible to the Minnesota Freedom Fund resources https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/ .">https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/">... White supremacy and the police state have vast resources and communities desperately need grassroots funding to tackle these issues.
/8 We need to engage in informed dialogue with other white people to highlight issues of racial injustice. The labour to discuss and highlight these issues cannot just weigh on people of colour. In a small part, I& #39;ve been discussing this issue with my family as much as I can.
/8 Finally, if there is an important action I can highlight that I am especially committed to it is that we need to act locally. Learn what is happening in your own community and how you can fight white supremacy and racism where you are. At UBC, there is so much more we can do.
