I have left the houston protest but when i was there i endup stranded on my own for a short time. I realized there were a few things i didnt consider when looking at videos/pictures on twitter. So here’s a short thread of outer experiences i encountered.
first and foremost, police often grouped up in smaller groups at street intersections to draw protesters to them and distract them from their march.
in the largest groups or groups where there are news reporters the police hold their composure. They have no problem using force when they are handling small wandering groups. I saw an officer push his own partner IN UNIFORM to the ground in order to beat a protester
This is an obvious risk but i wanted to add this in anyways. Sexual predators DO NOT take breaks. Please please be smarter than me and find a few people to walk/talk with BEFORE necessary. I was luckily able to use two nearby girls to get away from a man who was following me
tips to spot undercover cops
-NO protester is going to urge you to go toward a dangerous altercation with the police if they do...they’re undercover
-Undercover cops will film and instigate rather than chant and interact.
If you do end up stranded like i did. just find a nearby outdoor space on your maps app like a park lake or restaurant cluster. You’ll find other resting protesters there and they can direct you to where the crowds went.
