People have been criticizing what is happening in Minneapolis with both blatant and dogwhistled racism, as well as generally dissenting upon what are being called “riots”.
On all platforms, we are hearing and seeing
"When whites protest we didn't burn anything"
And in the past year, that has been true. and look at what those protests have accomplished—nothing. Even in the recent right wing protests against lockdown where people have come out in droves with thousand-dollar rifles
and body armor a foot thick, they have taken no real action, and have reaped no results to speak of.
Now what we are seeing unfold is an actual struggle against obvious oppression and a complete failure of any person in power to meaningfully respond.
And the protesters have only been looked down upon.
The "reopen" protestes were theatrics & No action. Because those cowards don't want action—all they want is attention. Protesters armed to the teeth are being put to shame by people with rocks. They're god damn lucky
the protestors in Minneapolis aren't picking up the gun. Even though they have EVERY RIGHT to.
"They should do better, nonviolence" But as Malcolm said, “Sometimes you have to pick the gun up to put the gun down.”
Of course, nonviolence is ideal. But nonviolence is only viable when both parties see each other as equals.
Here, the opposing side (in this case, our systematically and materially racist government, the police whose entire job it is to keep the boot on the neck,) don't see
marginalized people as equals. They see them as "thugs" "trouble makers" they paint them as outsiders and try to dehumanize them. They are trying to shape the minds of the majority intop believing that the rage that these people feel is unjustified.
In situations such as this, more aggressive tactics are required. Black people are 20% of the minneapolis population, but make up 60% of the victims in police shootings. This is an incomprehensible number.
For years, we have heard the cry of “blacks lives matter.”
For years we have seen peaceful protests across the country. And for those peaceful protests, the gains have been this—yet another video of a bFergusonlack man being murdered in cold blood by a cop. Year after year more ferguson protestors turn up murdered.
Peace is not working. there must be a change by any means necessary.

All of you out there. Be safe.
