From @PantsuitPolitic:
There is a similarity between COVID-19 and racism in that we’re struggling with COVID-19 and our actions around it because it’s a collective problem and one that we don’t have complete control over, and the control we have feels really uncomfortable to us.

This is a useful way to think about it when we, as white people, maintain, deepen, become aware of the idea that we all are racist. We all have an unconscious bias, we all do things from a place of being part of this centuries-long history.
Remembering: I hold this in me without any intention to and also it incredibly powerful. The thing I must think about constantly is safe guarding others from it, and deepening my awareness of how I can do that.
And that’s hard, and confusing, and complicated. And it is NOT something to whine about because I am not scared of my children having interactions with the police.
We have a ton of work to do, it doesn’t all get solved today. This problem is not going away, because it is not about one bad police officer. -Beth
