I’m about to raise hell and expose DePaul University for the racist ass school they are. Please give me a sec as I pull this thread together and calm down because I am Pissed
@DePaulU has denied several tenures of their Black and PoC hirees who originally get hired to teach diverse studies. Recently, DePaul has let go one of the only Black Professors in the department of Commincation that teaches Black Diaspora Studies.
Professor Lisa Calvente was my first and Only Black Professor at DePaul University. She has been facing racial discrimination within the DePaul faculty and has received an unfair termination by DePaul’s President A. Gabriel Esteban
Professor Calvente has expressed to me and the rest of her students the numerous struggles that she has faced @DePaulU Here her is a statement on DePaul’s Staff:
"Since 2015, my colleagues have used my role as your professor to try and terminate my employment. My senior....

colleagues, & your professors, have resorted to grossly misrepresenting your evaluations of my classes and twisting your words so that they could make the case that my teaching, specifically on racism and marginalization, was “ineffective,” “intimidating,” & my class was"hostile"
The narrative was framed that Calvente’s diverse Curriculum was ineffective in students, to help remove her tenure, which was denied at first by former the Dean of the College of Communication, Dr. Salma Ghanem (in her role as Acting Provost).
Professor Calvente taught about he ill’s of white supremacy and the truths about Black realities and history. Taking one of her classes as a Black student at pwi was the only liberating experience of my college career. Her classes are designed to not make whiteness the default
And with that DePaul’s majority white staff and students were made to feel "uncomfortable."Their white fragility has led them to using whistle blow language to help disqualify Professors Calvente’s curriculum:
"My colleagues in the College of Communication have indicated that..

the students at DePaul are not capable of processing information with the same agility and, of the DePaul student body, state that my “approach might be appropriate for students with higher levels of understanding and articulating complexity,...
, but less so for those who need support to grow intellectually.” " DePaul has outright told my Professor that LEARNING ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE WAS TOO HARD FOR THEIR WHITE STUDENTS.
When I was in her class we were able to examine Black Sociologist and read the racist journals of columbus. The white students were obliviously triggered by the factual oppression that was being taught but for the Black students in the class, we all felt so safe and HEARDDD
@DePaulU has a record of not being inclusive at all, contrary to the many "diversity campaigns" they set. They let go of a Professor who made a DePaul Black student like myself, feel safe and inspired. I am outraged and this should outrage us all.
@DePaulU Your Black and Poc students need an answer as to why Professor Calvente was terminated? Seeing that she was one of the few professors who provided the diversity you all pride yourselves in?
My professor has not asked me to but I have started a petition on her behalf please sign the petition to show solidarity against the racist firing of Professor Lisa Calvente done by @DePaulU https://www.change.org/p/depaul-university-i-want-to-achieve-professor-lisa-calvente-keeping-her-tenure-at-depaul-university?recruiter=569773787&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition">https://www.change.org/p/depaul-...
