Thinking about what it must be like to go through one's entire life still thinking that the world is fair, most consequences being deserved. Shouldn't something have broken through that at some point? And if it hasn't, what has any hope of doing so within a casual conversation?
A surprising reaction to something I posted about the CNN team being arrested prompted me thinking about that. Was a good reminder that plenty of people do genuinely think that if you're in trouble then you definitely did something wrong,
the corollary of course being that they will never be scared, arrested unjustly, etc., because they follow all the rules and life is fair. It just reminded me that that's a rather large worldview edifice to try to break through via any conversation - so then what?
It's another example of a long-running fascination of mine, the so-called 'just world theory,' that people psychologically protect themselves from thinking anything bad could happen to them by convincing themselves that bad things happening to others must be their fault somehow.
One might be 'luckier' in a conventional sense if you do manage to life most of your life with that worldview intact - it means your life has been pretty fortunate. But it also seems a little sad, as though you're living in a fairy tale, away from the rest of shared humanity.
As an aside (because this thread isn't primarily about astrology), that has some implications that are good to think about regarding seeing fortunate things in charts. Is the concrete good fortune there at the expense of greater internal growth? Etc.
Not that they're automatically opposed, nor is suffering to be glorified or an automatic vehicle for greater understanding. Just an interesting thing to keep in mind regarding the positives and negatives in natal charts, and what you can see from charts vs. what you maybe can't.
