I see a lot of people struggling with this. Here& #39;s the shortest version I can manage.

When discussing what the problems are and how they manifest, defer to those impacted.

When it& #39;s time to demand change and push the powers that be to act. That& #39;s when you use your voice. https://twitter.com/IanColdwater/status/1266387837122985985">https://twitter.com/IanColdwa...
I think it& #39;s much more difficult to navigate this nuance than a lot of people give credit for. There will times when a white ally is asked "what should we do?" And they won& #39;t have an answer other than "we have to do something. Let& #39;s go talk to the people who know."
This is where we get into learning how to lend your privilege. Use whatever power you have to give voice and platform and leadership opportunities to those who want to do the work. And then be ready to step aside.
It& #39;s important to understand why this is necessary. The nature of power structures is that those in power are insulated from those they oppress. They don& #39;t have to be exposed to the people who are actually impacted. We need allies to create bridges so they can& #39;t hide.
The public protests are just one tactic for making sure the people who are being harmed can& #39;t be ignored. But we need more. We need it happening at all levels. So the people in power can& #39;t get a moments rest until they take action. That& #39;s how this works.
