What makes Julio Jones so good?

Welceom to another thread and today, I will touch on what makes Julio Jones so good.
Rt’s and feedback is appreciated. ❤️🔥👍
Julio Jones played his college ball at Alabama. He accumulated 179 receptions for 2,653 yards and 15 touchdowns. At Alabama he won the 2009 BCS Championship and many other SEC accolades.
At the scouting combine Julio Jones his height was 6’2 and he ran a 40 time of 4.42 but Jones had a broken right foot when he ran the 40 yard dash.
Julio Jones has a rare combination of elite speed and good height and this makes almost unguardable for corners and defenses.
Let’s look into Julio Jones’s skillset then we will look at his stats and accomplishments with Atlanta so far.
Julio Jones is strong, big and fast. He’s got amazing feetwork and a good release. He’s agile and he’s fr t and jumping and making spectacular catches. He can make tough catches and he’s a great blocker. Jones can single handily take over a game.
Now let’s look at stats.
In his career so far he’s accumulated 797 catches, 12,125 yards and 57 touchdowns. But let me touch on 2015 Julio Jones
2015 Julio Jones was an absolute monster. He was so good.
He made insane plays and he had moments many will never forget. That season Jones had 136 catches for 1,871 yards and 8 touchdowns. Yes you read that right 1,871 receiving yards. Ever since 2014, Jones hasn’t had a season with less than 1,390 receiving yards.
Jones has racked up some NFL records and accomplishments.
- 7x Pro Bowler
- 2x First Team All Pro
- 3x Second Team All Pro
- Fastest player in NFL history to reach 10,000 receiving yards.
Now in 2020 many doubt who’s the best receiver in the league today. There’s only 2 you can really compare to Jones and possibly say their better. Deandre Hopkins and of course Michael Thomas.
Jones is better than Hopkins in my opinion let me explain why. Since Hopkins entered the league he has 54 touchdowns 15 more than Julio Jones does. But I want to look past career stats where Jones blows Hopkins away in catches and yards and look at Per Game averages.
Hopkins Per Game averages
- 5.7 Receptions
- 78.2 Receiving Yards
- 0.5 Touchdowns

Jones Per Game averages
- 6.8 Receptions
- 102.8 Receiving Yards
- 0.4 Touchdowns
Per game Jones averages more catches and yards. And we must remember that Hopkins had been Houston’s #1 since he entered the league Jones had to share with Roddy White before White eventually departed and ended his career.
Julio is bigger and faster than Hopkins, But I do think Hopkins has better hands and is a better red zone threat than Julio.
Now let’s talk about the man everyone loves Michael Thomas.
Michael Thomas has blown everyone away with his insane production since he entered the league. He has 470 catches and 5512 receiving yards and 32 touchdowns in his 3 year career.
Since Thomas has entered the league he still has less receiving yards than Julio even though he has 87 more catches. An interesting stat is that Thomas averages 11.7 yards per reception which is good. But Jones averages 15.5 yards per reception.
A big argument for why Thomas is better than Julio is touchdowns which he has 32 which blows away Jones’s 23 (Since 2016) But Thomas has 470 catches which is 87 more than Julio, if Julio got 87 more catches who knows who many more yards and touchdowns he would have.
Let’s look again at per game stats since 2016.
Thomas
- 7.5 Receptions
- 87.5 Receiving Yards
- 0.5 Touchdowns

Jones
- 6.3 Receptions
- 97.1 Receiving Yards
- 0.4 Touchdowns.
Jones averages less catches but more yards and is only averaging 0.1 less touchdowns than Thomas.
But Thomas has better hands than Julio. Thomas is a deep threat and people fail to recognize it’s not in the Saints system to give Thomas deep routes.
Thomas and Jones are the two best receivers in the league. Hate MT or not he’s elite. But Jones gets the edge because of his efficiency and better speed and he’s less of an distraction for the organization.
Jones has better feetwork and he’s more of a deep threat. Jones averages more yards on less catches. Thomas is better at certain things but not all and not more. He’s got hands and a better release, Better route runner.
End of Thread. I know not everyone will agree and everyone has different opinions. Case is though these two are the best in the world at what they do. Who’s better in your opinion? Thanks for the Read!
