usually she comes around to buying their propaganda. not, for whatever reason, this time

she was even articulating all the reasons why white people need to be clear in calling it murder

I want this to be a bellwether of something but I think it’s just mom.

if normally I feel like I’m in Ionesco’s RHINOCEROS this makes me feel like I’m in a happy upside-down version of it where you’re expecting rhinoceri and get something else

The problem is that if she continues this line of inquiry, she’ll eventually get around to realizing that among the things she’s downplayed for far too long is the severe exploitation she and my father have lived with their whole lives.

I think this is at least as important a factor in keeping working-class whites conservative as any psychological wage—you can’t live on those wages too well IME
