Why donating to a bail fund, as a white person specifically, is one of the many ways to show up for the black community right now (thread)

Most immediately, giving to bail funds secure the release of arrested protesters demanding accountability in MN, KT, etc.

In the long term, though, bail funds help disrupt the effects of over-policing by helping folks ensure that their bank account balance is not the sole determinant of their liberty after an arrest.

This is where it’s important for white ppl, because we are far less likely to be pulled over, stopped, and arrested by police even when we do harmful things (which we do, obviously!) OR when we protest!!

By bailing someone out - a legally innocent person at this stage too - you ensure that they heal with family, maintain a job and a lease, and have the agency to defend themself against the white supremacist state.

Bail funds weaken the police & carceral state, they reunite families & help sustain communities.
