just some observations while walking down lake this morning:
the stretch of street between hiawatha and chicago (@ the midtown exchange) is still totally unpoliced. ppl were handing out free soda outside a gas station as they brought out pallets of food
lots of stores had “minority owned business” signs on thei glass and didn’t board up. totally unscathed. same for the obviously latin owned fronts like the mercado and taco shops. no boards, no broken glass.
same for the church, the division of indian work, and the human services building. completely untouched.
also saw a lot of other acts of solidarity. water, coffee, and snacks at the salvation army. food trucks giving out free meals. spontaneous cleanup crews. ppl pulling up with shovels and brooms and just going to work on the glass and soot in the street.
meanwhile the boost mobile and the auto parts stores were completely cleared out. liquor stores and chain stores too. it *seemed* very targeted.
