Well, I have been thinking about what to say about the story of the "rehomed" Chinese autistic boy.

The family that originally adopted the boy already had 4 neuro-typical kids, on the surface, as all parents know every child comes with challenges.

I only have one child, who is https://twitter.com/SarabethUrech/status/1212829713858584576">https://twitter.com/SarabethU...
Autistic, low functioning - nonverbal, not potty trained and 9 years old.

Many parents say to me "I don& #39;t know how you do it" and my response has always been "you would if you had to" but over the years I have learned that is not true.

Parenting is not for the weak, but
There are a lot of weak parents out there.

Every parent falls short, well atleast the strong parents who have high expectations of their children and will DO everything and anything to help them get there.

Strong parents hold themselves to unrealistic expectations
AS THEY SHOULD

Weak parents are either blessed with the right strangers influencing their kids or produce bad kids/adults (unkind, not empathetic, selfish etc).

I am strong, I am VERY hard on myself about how I parent my son and I have had some very low moments when faced
with the reality of my son& #39;s future.

The education of how to parent my son is endless, therapies, schools, doctors, diets, supplements etc

Plus the execution and admin crap that comes with all of that.

I WOULD - my son struggles and I would do anything to improve his quality
of life, including advocating for a cure (that is controversial to many).

Now back to Myka who gave her adopted autistic Chinese son back - I get it. Her entire families life would have had to change and if they are ALL not bought in, then it would not have worked.
I am glad she found a strong parent to take this boy, someone who has the capacity to learn daily, advocate with vigor, and the support structure to get her through the hard times.

Everyone is not cut out to be a special needs parent, so for all my fellow parent advocates STAY
STRONG

To ALL the parents out there - STAY STRONG our kiddos need you.

If you want to see inside my life as a parent I talk about weekly (well most weeks) on a FB Live for 10min at Sarabeth the Advogeek FB page: https://www.facebook.com/geekyoutrust ">https://www.facebook.com/geekyoutr...
