Years ago I was deeply mistaken in my response to the Ferguson riots. I thought cops felt threatened. Even as someone who follows news quite closely, I was unaware of the rampant systematic racism in America.

A friend set me straight on that and patiently taught me I was a fool.
As I result, I realised I needed to change who I read and listened to. My sources of information were too white. Too powerful. They did not reflect the world at large.

This week I have seen fury for days, not just after riots. Justifiably so.

It has been painful, but real.
This feels different from Ferguson or all the other points where police killed minority people with impunity.

For the first time in ages, fury is tinged with some hope.

Trump + that horrible video managed to focus the entire world on this moment. It feels like a tipping point.
And the people fighting the fight have the responses now.

"Non-violence is always the way." = Well, Colin Kaepernick tried...

"This is bad apples. Lone wolves." = I am sorry, but this happens to our people Every. Day.

The police officers were fired. = "They MURDERED SOMEONE."
All the stories that you share about what it is like to not be white?

They matter.

They help.

More people are listening than ever before.

Slowly-too slowly-people are starting to understand. It will take forever, but overcoming ignorance is a lifetime affair.

Thank you.
