I’m struggling to try to get some work done & think about lab reopening next week but the weeks news has left me so sad it’s a tough task.If an old white man is feeling that way today, its hard to imagine what this week means to my African-American Colleagues & their families 1/4
I’m sorry we live in a nation where racism is so ingrained that we don’t even see it happening everyday around us and its not until events like those of this week bring them to mind that we notice. I’m also sorry that I have not lived up to what I need to do to work for change2/4
I grew up in Minneapolis, in a 100% white suburb just five miles from Northeast Minneapolis. Prince and I were born within a few months of one another and 10 miles apart and our lives never crossed. 3/4
Add on to it the racist and failed leadership running our nation and it seems many days like we’re going backward instead of forward. I’m ashamed of my nation, my own complicity in this, and of the failure of leadership at all levels. 4/4
One more thought, that might be some hope for the future. My niece has been in the midst of the protests in Minneapolis this week. I worry for her safety, but she is where she thinks she needs to be this week.
