Care homes are often isolated in their own communities. We don’t just need gov’t action, we can also make changes happen. As we move forward let’s think of ways to end the isolation. There are short & long term ideas. Please add to this thread. #LiftUpLTC
Short term: Food is Love. I see lots of posts of food deliveries to hospitals, #LTC staff need food too! Night shift especially appreciates being *seen* (don’t just deliver lunch) #LiftUpLTC
Short term: Money honey. If you are in a position to donate, send some tangible love. Many care homes are non-profits and many publicly-owned have a Foundation. You can get your tax receipt just like any charity. #LiftUpLTC
Short term: Music, Art, Laughter. There are many artists who regularly go into LTC homes to share their talents. Consider paying for one of these events to both support residents and artists. #LiftUpLTC
Short term: Ninja! I’ve seen #COVID19 #ninja projects – gifting care packages to those in self-isolation. A care home is just a bigger project. Get your ninja group on it! #LiftUpLTC
Long term: Kids. No, I don’t mean goats. Create intergenerational projects. High schoolers can do reminiscence with residents. Elementary school students can help out during recreation events. Pre-schoolers are always fun. #LiftUpLTC
Long term: Volunteer. If you have an extra couple of hours a week, spend them at the care home in your neighbourhood. You may get to hone skills in carpet bowling, bingo, or my personal favourite: the hand chime choir. #LiftUpLTC
Long term: Connect with an elder. There are some residents who have no family, no friends in the picture. Staff often buy them birthday and holiday gifts, clothes, toiletries. Consider supporting one of these residents #LiftUpLTC
